O2 Mobile Broadband offers a free NC10 laptop with their monthly tariff package – allowing you to connect to the internet without having to be at home. Here are the specifications of the free mini-laptop:

Samsung NC10 Mini-Laptop (pictured below)
1GB Memory, 160GB Hard Drive
10.2″ widescreen display
Intel Atom N270 Processor (1.6Ghz)
Windows XP

Make use of The Cloud or BT Openzone WiFi networks or utilise your allowance of mobile broadband. Here’s how the tariffs shape up:

Tariff: £29.38 per month for 24 months

3GB and unlimited Wi-Fi
300 free texts
NC10 Laptop – free

3GB is roughly enough to do the following:
Hours spent browsing (daily) – 2 hours
Emails sent & received (daily) – 125
Music downloads (per month) – 25
Video downloads (per month) – 45 mins
Software updates / downloads (per month) – 2

Unlimited Wi-Fi offers you access to over 7500 hotspots in the UK with The Cloud and BT Openzone.
For single (and personal) device use only. Subject to excessive usage policy

This tots up to £715 for two years of low-usage mobile internet connection on a small 10.2″ screen laptop. This tariff would not be enough if your work requires constant connection to the internet. However, it would be enough for daily e-mails or some college work. For higher usage check out the 10GB deal:

Monthly tariff £39.15 for 24 months

10GB and unlimited Wi-Fi
300 free texts
NC10 Laptop – free

Allowance:
10GB is roughly enough to do the following:
Hours spent browsing (daily) – 6 hours
Emails sent & received (daily) – 375
Music downloads (per month) – 83
Video downloads (per month) – 2.25 hours
Software updates / downloads (per month) – 6

Unlimited Wi-Fi offers you access to over 7500 hotspots in the UK with The Cloud and BT Openzone.
For single (and personal) device use only. Subject to excessive usage policy.

This tariff is closer to what you would need to work online away from the office. It works out at £939.60 for two years of medium to high mobile internet usage in the UK.

O2 recommend a bolt-on for trips abroad so as not to incur high charges. Also, excessive usage limits apply to the “unlimited wifi”.

Upgrades

Mini-laptops such as the NC10 are great for fitting into bags and even handbags – they are very light, too. You can slot USB connections and SD cards into them – allowing you to do everything on the move from reporting to file sharing. This mini-laptop also has one advantage over other similar products – it uses Windows XP, whereas many mini-notebooks use Linux. Most people will be more familiar with Windows.

However, the screens and buttons on mini-laptops can be a bit small for some people and so O2 Mobile Broadband offer upgrades to larger laptops on the same two tariffs above:

For £48.93 extra you can get a Samsung R510 2GB with the following stats:
2GB Memory, 160 GB Hard Drive
15.4” WXGA Widescreen Display
Intel Celeron Dual Core Processor
Windows Vista

For £78.29 extra you get a Samsung R510 3GB with the following stats:
3GB memory, Hard Drive: 250GB
15.4” WXGA Widescreen Display
Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor
Windows Vista
